Magic from mummy’s tummy 妈妈的魔法肚子 Chinese picture book inquiry based art project for kids to explore Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day Inquiry-based Art Curriculum

This Mother’s Day, we invite little artists to embark on a heartwarming and imaginative art journey that celebrates the wonder of motherhood. It highlights the magical bond between mother and child. Inspired by the beloved Chinese children’s book 《妈妈的魔法肚子》 (“Mummy’s Magic Tummy”), this three-lesson inquiry-based art project encourages children to reflect on their beginnings. They will think back to the time they were growing in their mother’s womb. It allows them to express their thoughts through drawing and painting.

Exploring the World of Imagination

Through guided storytelling, thoughtful questioning, and playful discussions, children will explore several key questions:

  • What might it have been like inside Mummy’s tummy?

  • What did Mummy feel when she carried me?

  • What magical connection do I still share with her today?

These inquiries encourage kids to think deeply about their relationship with their mothers. It helps them visualize and understand the bond they share.

Nurturing Creativity and Emotional Intelligence

This unique art experience nurtures not only creativity but also emotional intelligence. Children will learn to appreciate their mothers and express their feelings through art. This project encourages them to listen and respond to their emotions. They will create a personal and heartfelt gift — something only your child can create. It is a special way to make this Mother’s Day extra meaningful.

The Final Masterpiece

At the end of this art journey, children will create a piece that reflects their understanding and feelings. This artwork becomes a personal token of love and gratitude toward their mothers. It will serve as a precious keepsake, reminding them of the bond they share.

Why This Project Matters

This project emphasizes the importance of creativity in early childhood development. Art encourages self-expression and helps children build confidence. It also fosters a sense of belonging and connection. When children create something with their hands, they learn to value their thoughts and themselves, which is an essential skill for their growth.
